The New Jedi Order

SNN had the interesting ability to meet New Jedi Order spokesperson, Corina Deepstarr, in the Mos Eisley Cantina the other night. It would seem the spies were about trying to get information that could be possibly gleaned from such a discussion. Rebels and Imperials alike abounded around trying to sniff out the order. While some Rebels nearby asked me directly what we were talking about and if I was in the order (for those in the know – I am not a Jedi) my secrecy is bound by oath I take to get these types of interviews.

While Corina has kept most of the order tight lipped beyond her declaration on the SOE boards I did manage to get some information out of her. Here some excerpts from the interview that pass the 132 page non-disclosure agreement I signed:

Creeva: Corina, how would you introduce the Order to our readers?

Corina: The Order is here for the good of the Rebel Player Base. It’s role is to provide structure and give players true content. Something that the devs have failed to give.

Creeva:
You’ve stated in your manifest that you are going to have players complete the knight trials, is this going to be the same as the pre-NGE trials or are you going for something a bit more realistic?

Corina: It will be realistic. It will fall away from the kill kill kill sort of thing we saw in the past.
Creeva:
How many of your Jedi are pre-NGE and what is your average amount of Subscribed time for members?

Corina:
I never thought about that… Pre-NGE …elder jedi…all those divisions have no meaning to me. The old Order made a huge mistake in fostering the have between types of players. This Order will not make the same mistake.

Creeva: Speaking of types of players that ties in nicely with my next question. What is your answer to the critics that feel this is a role play only guild

Corina:
I say they are jaded by the Orders of the past. They have a reason to feel this way but I was told today that one Imperial guild is seeing the order as a threat and they are working on a way to stop it’s spread.

Before this interview I had received a secret communication from someone supposedly inside the Jedi Order that wishes to remain nameless – I didn’t mention or ask the validity of this source to Corina to not spill their cover. This source told me when asked a similar question “That this is being done to counteract the Imperial order and thus bring PVP to the people and gives a side benefit or role playing for everyone else. Before I get back to my interview if my source from inside the order that gave me information that wasn’t filtered by Corina was correct – that there are currently 11 members on the order’s Jedi Council.

Creeva:
So how is the Order going to flush out respec Jedi.

Corina:
People talk. Just like they talk about who is an ebayer. It might not be perfect but the rules are more if a person becomes a problem the order has the power to remove a player with cause.

Creeva: What is your answer to players that think your rule structure is too complex?

Corina:
The Order is not for them. They need to go find something else to do. They also can go create an Order of their own.

Creeva: What do you feel is the difference between this Order and the old one?

Corina:
The new order was laid out in July of last year. It was designed to avoid the mistakes of the old order. It’s power structure is spread out there are checks and balances. The way it is designed is that it reduces red tape and stream lines things. People know what they are joining from the get go, there are no smoke and mirrors. The old Order was dis-Order.

Creeva: Why did the old Order fail?

Corina:
The old Order tried to please everyone. It also tried to band-aid things as it went along. It had a weak foundation

Creeva:
What is the current leaderships vision for the Order?

Corina:
A self governing Order that can survive a leadership turnover. I do not plan on being a the master for the duration. My goal is to see the order elect a new master and follow the constitution guidelines. Once that happens the Order should survive many years to come.

Creeva: What is your response to the players that have said that you just wasted 6 months of your life on this?

Corina:
I could be bitter or mad, but why? The Order is alive and growing. I think some fear it’s success so instead of building something for themselves, they find it easier to tear down someone else’s creation.

Creeva: We’ve reached the end of I have any parting words?

Corina:
The real powers is in the judges. If someone in the council tries something nuts, the other judges can strike it down and have final say.

The Order wants to restore honor to office of Jedi. Let’s face it, Star Wars is about the force and the Jedi (editors note – we all know it’s about the entertainers) It is sad that many players do not pay honor to that office. We want to change that. Show that Jedi is worth playing and we hope to restore mystery to it.

I would like to say as a reporter it was an honor being given any access into one of SWG’s secret societies. Maybe we’ll have to do an Imperial order interview to compensate.
